Feldioara
Feldioara ( German Marienburg, Hungarian Földvár ) is a municipality with about 6000 inhabitants in Transylvania in the district of Brasov in Romania.
The place is also known by the German name Maren Burch and the Hungarian name Szászföldvár.
History
1211 established the German order of knights a castle here. Archaeological finds from the period before 1211, however, suggest that the place had already been settled.
The castle of the German Order of Knights is about 20 kilometers from Brasov ( Kronstadt) and was built on a roughly 40-70 meters high projection. The Romanian name is the Hungarian name Föld - vár ( trans.: Earth Castle ) is derived. It was destroyed in an earthquake in 1838 and never rebuilt.
In 2009, 26 were members of the Protestant Church registers ( Transylvanian Saxons ).
Next to the castle, the church is to be mentioned as a landmark.
