Feliu Formosa
Feliu Formosa i Torres ( born September 10, 1934 in Sabadell) is a Catalan writer. As a poet, playwright, essayist and translator, he is one of the major Catalan writers of our time.
Life
Formosa studied Romance Philology in Barcelona and German literature in Heidelberg, where he 1959-60 held a teaching position at the Institute translation. From 1960 he worked as a director and actor, first in independent theater groups, then worked at various theaters in Terrassa and Barcelona, from 1975 as a lecturer at the Institut del Teatre de la Barcelona Provincial Council, where he taught until 2000.
Also in the 60s, began his work as a translator of literary works. To this day, Feliu Formosa has over a hundred volumes mainly from German into Catalan and translated into Spanish, including about Lessing's Hamburg Dramaturgy, Schiller's Mary Stuart and robbers, selected dramas and stories Kleist, Wagner's Tannhäuser, Wedekind's Pandora's Box, Musil The Man Without Qualities (Part III), Kafka's The Trial, pieces of Karl Valentin, Brecht's all stage works, Peter Weiss ' Marat / Sade, Klaus Mann's Mephisto or Thomas Bernhard's Heldenplatz. His renderings of German poetry into Catalan comprise two anthologies of poetry from the 16th to 19th and from the 20th Century ( as editor and co-translator ), an anthology of German combat poems "A la paret Escrit amb Guix " [ On the wall standing with chalk ] (together with Artur Quintana ), Trakl's poetic work, Brecht Bückower elegies and other poems as well, into Spanish, a book of poems by Heine.
As a poet Formosa has emerged since the 70s. After debuting band Alpes Breus a les mans [ Short dawns in the hands ] (1973 ) fifteen other volumes have been published by him, also the collected poems to 2002 under the title Darrere el vidre [ Behind the window glass ] ( 2004). His poetry is characterized by a clear, unperätenziöse language that connects thoughts poetry with realistic elements, while its close relation to expressionism and surrealism does not deny.
Awards
Feliu Formosa has been honored with numerous awards, including the premium Carles Riba for Poetry, the National Prize for the translator's complete works by the Spanish Ministry of Culture (1994 ), the Premi Nacional de Teatre de la Generalitat de Catalunya ( 2002), the Premi d' honor de les Lletres Catalanes (2005) [ special prize of Catalan literature ], etc.; He also is the recipient of the Creu de Sant Jordi, the highest medal of the Catalan Government. In 2011 he was awarded the Friedrich Gundolf Prize of the German Academy for Language and Literature for the promotion of German culture abroad.
