Felix Prohaska

Felix Prohaska ( born May 16, 1912 in Vienna, † March 29, 1987 ) was an Austrian conductor and professor of musicology in Hanover.

Training

Felix Prohaska was the son of the composer and professors Carl Prohaska ( 1869-1927 ). He received his musical training from his father, he studied piano at helm, in theory Kornauth and Gál.

Professional career

Felix Prohaska was a " repetiteur " at the Graz Opera 1936-1939, as conductor at the opera in Duisburg 1939-41, 1941-43 in Strasbourg, Prague, Salzburg and the Vienna Volksoper 1946-55. From 1955 to 1961, Prohaska Deputy general music director in Frankfurt and principal conductor at the Frankfurt Opera. From 1961 to 1969 he headed the Academy / Academy of Music and Theatre in Hanover where he was also a professor until 1975. Moreover, he worked at the Volksoper in Vienna, 1964-67 and 1965-74 also at the Lower Saxony State Opera Hannover. For a short time he also taught at the Vienna Academy of Music and the Vienna Conservatory. Under his leadership, many images of the avant-garde classics by Johann Sebastian Bach, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Franz Schubert and Gustav Mahler were made.
