Fengman Dam

The Fengman Dam is one of the first large dams that have been built in China. It was built in northeastern China on the River Songhua Jiang Jilin Province 24 km southeast of the town of the same name. My Chinese name is Fengman Shuiba or Feng Shui -man -pa.

The dam has a gravity dam as a shut-off. It is 91.7 m high, 1080 m long and consists of 60 sections, each of which is 18 m long and are numbered from left to right. The water can flow to the sections 9 to 19 over the wall (as spillway ). Sections 21 to 31 are inlet structures with pressure pipes with diameters of 5.6 m, take water to the turbines. Besides the ten main turbine there is a smaller one with a 1.6 m long pipe for their own use. In another source is spoken by eight turbines.

Between 1937 and 1942, the Japanese occupying power has started to build the dam in order to gain energy from hydropower. The first impounding began in November 1942 and the first turbine began to run in March 1943. After the interruptions dam was first built in 1953 finished. The last turbine took in 1959 on their operation. The total capacity of the hydropower plant is 552.5 MW, 166 MW in continuous operation be guaranteed. The total annual energy production is 1890 GWh.

In addition to the main purpose of the dam ( electricity generation ) it is also used to flood control, irrigation, public and industrial water supply, navigability, fisheries, tourism and other purposes. On the same river higher up is the Baishan Dam. Your catchment area of 19,000 km ² is part of the total catchment area of 42,500 km ².

The reservoir is one of about 11,000 million cubic meters of content to the larger of the earth. The exact content will vary given as 10,680, 10,780 or 11,460 million cubic meters. The reservoir is narrow and elongated, about 180 km long and up to 10 km wide. Its surface is up to 550 km ² in size depending on the water level. The maximum depth is 75 meters.
