Ferdinand Gottschalk

Ferdinand Gottschalk ( born February 24, 1858 in London, England; † 10 November 1944 ) was a British actor and playwright.

Life

Gottschalk made ​​his theater debut in 1887 in Toronto. In 1894 he came to Broadway in New York, where he worked the next 40 years in about 45 pieces. He also worked as a writer and producer of plays. The small, early balding character actor was frequently used as a strict authority figure and also starred in his later film career often judges, doctors or politicians. His film debut was in 1917, but until 1932 Gottschalk was regularly seen on the screen. There Gottschalk was not only considered one of the oldest actor, but played, among other roles in the lavish productions people in the hotel, in the sign of the cross and Les Misérables. He ended his acting career in 1938 after 75 film appearances and returned to his native England, where he died in 1944 at the age of 86 years.
