Fernando Morena

Fernando Morena Belora ( born February 2, 1952 in Montevideo ) is a former Uruguayan football player and current coach. He scored in the 1970s, the best known and most prolific players in the country and also played in the national team of Uruguay.

Association

His first footballing steps undertook the son of Lito and Pola Morena in the children's team of the club El Faro de Punta Carretas. Even in the local basketball team, he was active. Morena began his career in 1968 with Racing Club de Montevideo and moved to CA River Plate (Montevideo) a little later. After he had scored a total of 58 goals for River Plate, he was awarded the 1972 Premio Charrúa as a discovery of the season. On 25 January of the following year, he then signed a contract with Peñarol. His debut for the Aurinegros he celebrated on February 3, 1973 game against the Brazilian team of Avaí from Florianópolis. His first goal for Peñarol, he scored then four days later in the Copa del Atlántico in the match against Boca Juniors. In the following years he played at the club until 1979 and coined this Äera. It developed during this period the most important goals in the black and yellow and was in the years 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977 and 1978, six times in succession the Uruguayan Primera División scorer.

After two years in Spain between 1979 and 1981 at Rayo Vallecano and Valencia CF moved Morena for a then-record transfer fee of 1,029,000 U.S. dollars back Peñarol.

1982, the year in which he top scorer in the First Division Uruguay was the seventh time, he qualified with Peñarol after four victories in the semi-final group on CR Flamengo from Rio de Janeiro and CA River Plate from Buenos Aires for the finals of the Copa Libertadores against CD Cobreloa from Chile. After a 0-0 draw at home Morena scored in the 89th minute of the second leg of the winning goal to make it 1-0 and manifested itself thus also for the third time top scorer of the competition. In the final of the World Cup in December of that year he defeated with Peñarol in Tokyo the English European champions Aston Villa FC 2-0.

Morena completed a total of 306 league games in which he scored 267 goals. For international club competitions he participated in 83 games and contributed 41 Goals. If we add even amateur games, he played 668 matches.

National

In the national team he debuted on 27 October 1971 in a 3-0 win against Chile and was the same in with a goal in the victory. Together with the national team took Morena also participated in the World Cup 1974. Overall, he graduated to his last international match on September 4, 1983 54 games for the Celeste, in which he scored 22 goals.

A trainer

After his retirement from active sports Morena worked as a trainer and found his first job at his former club CA River Plate Montevideo. It was followed by engagements at Peñarol, Real Murcia, Huracán Buceo, Rampla Juniors FC and the CSD Colo -Colo in Chile, before he was again briefly committed in 2005 as a training manager at Peñarol.
