Fidelis Rakotonarivo

Fidelis Rakotonarivo SJ ( born August 28, 1956 in Ambohimahazo at Ambositra, Madagascar ) is a Malagasy Jesuit and Bishop of Ambositra in Madagascar.

Life

Rakotonarivo attended the minor seminary in Kianjasoa ( Fianarantsoa ) and then joined the novitiate of the Society of Jesus in Antananarivo one. He studied philosophy in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Theology in Nairobi and spirituality in Canada. On August 15, 1992 he was ordained priest.

After ordination, he was spiritual director at the Collège St. Francois Xavier in Fianarantsoa (1992-1995), Spiritual and economist at the Grand Inter-diocesan Seminary in Vohitsoa Fianarantsoa (1995-1998) and superior of the religious community in Fianarantsoa (1998-2001). Since 2001 he was Superior of the Community of Ambositra and Provinzkonsultor.

Pope Benedict XVI. appointed him in 2005 to the second bishop of the diocese Ambositra. He received his episcopal consecration on 4 September 2005, the Archbishop of Fianarantsoa Fulgence Rabemahafaly; Co-consecrators were Fulgence Rabeony SJ, Archbishop of Toliara, and Philibert Randriambololona SJ, Archbishop Emeritus of Fianarantsoa.
