Fierbinți-Târg

Fierbinţi - Târg is a town in the district Ialomiţa in Romania.

Geographical location

Fierbinţi - Târg is on the edge of the Bărăgan - steppe - a part of the Wallachian Plain - on the right bank of the river Ialomiţa. The district capital Slobozia located about 80 km to the east, the country's capital, Bucharest, about 35 km south-west.

History

The oldest archaeological finds on the territory of today's date from the 2nd century BC Fierbinţi - Târg 1620 was first mentioned. End of the 17th century Wallachian prince Michael the Brave had lands here, in the 18th and 19th centuries, the noble family Ghica.

1943, Fierbinţi - Târg by building the route from Bucharest to faurei connection to the Romanian railway network.

The main industries are agriculture, food processing and trade.

Population

1930 lived on the territory of today's approximately 5,850 residents, including about 50 Roma; the rest were Romanians. As of the 2002 census, 5,253 inhabitants were counted, including 5,232 Romanians, 18 Roma, two Hungarians and a Turk. Only about 1,300 lived in Fierbinţi - Târg itself, the other in the three incorporated villages.

Traffic

Fierbinţi - Târg lies on the railway line from Bucharest to Urziceni. In both directions currently operate (2009) per day in each direction for about four commuter trains. There are bus connections to Bucharest.
