Film Award of the Council of Europe

The Council of Europe Film Award (FACE Award) goes on the initiative of the Council of Europe during the International Film Festival Istanbul to a director to honor its commitment and engagement with issues of human rights. It recognizes as well the power of the film medium, making this issue a wide audience and so contributes to their better understanding. In this sense the excellent work reflects those values ​​that represents the Euro Europe itself: personal and political freedom, and the rule of law.

Price and Procedure

The appointed specifically for the jury selects the winners from the participants from the category " Human Rights in Cinema " of the festival. This can be both documentaries and feature films that deal with social change or individual destinies.

The FACE award is handed a bronze statue in the form and accompanied by a cash prize in the amount of EUR 10,000. It is a collaboration with Eurimages, the Council of Europe fund for co-production, distribution and exhibition of European films.

On 14 April 2007, the price for the first time by Human Rights Commissioner Thomas Hammarberg was, on behalf of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Terry Davis, granted. From now on, the Council of Europe Film Award is awarded annually in the context of cooperation between the International Istanbul Film Festival and the Euro Europe.
