Fini Henriques

Fini Valdemar Henriques ( born December 20 1867 in Copenhagen, † October 27, 1940 ) was a Danish composer and violinist.

Henriques was already playing violin as a child and was considered a musical prodigy. At the age of 20 he took lessons with Valdemar Tofft, a pupil of Louis Spohr. Later he studied composition with Johan Svendsen and studied from 1888 with Joseph Joachim in Berlin and at Woldemar Bargiel.

From 1892 to 1896 he was a violinist in the court orchestra of Copenhagen, after which he worked as a freelance composer and soloist. He founded a string quartet and 1911 a Chamber Music Society, which he called Musiksamfundet and twenty years headed.

Henriques has composed two operas, two ballets, incidental music, two symphonies, three symphonic poems, chamber music, piano pieces and songs.
