The parliamentary elections in Finland 1979 was held on 18 and 19 March 1979. It was the election of the 28th Parliament of Finland.

The Social Democratic Party, Kalevi Sorsa presented with the Prime Minister since 1977, remained the strongest force. The conservative National Coalition Party under Harri Holkeri won twelve seats to it and was just behind the Social Democratic Party became the second largest party.

The turnout was 81.2 %, which is 1.5 percentage points higher than the turnout at the last parliamentary election in 1975.

After the election

Mauno Koivisto released his party colleagues Kalevi Sorsa from as Prime Minister. Koivisto had already been 1968-1970 Prime Minister. He continued Sorsas coalition, but without the Liberal People's Party. Koivisto was elected in January 1982 as the successor Urho Kekkonen as president.
