Ilkka Suominen

Ilkka Olavi Suominen ( born April 8, 1939 in Nakkila ) is a Finnish politician of the National Coalition Party.

Suominen graduated in Pori school and then went to London and among other things to Reutlingen, where he was a student at the West German Gerber school. From 1960 worked in various positions in the family business JW Suominen Oy.

Suominen was a member of the Finnish Parliament 1970-1975 and between 1983 and 1994. Between 1979 and 1991 he was also chairman of the National Coalition Party. Speaker of the Parliament he was in 1987, and between 1991 and 1994.

As 1987 Harri Holkeri was selected by the National Coalition Party prime minister, Suominen was appointed trade and industry minister. The Office he led until 1991.

In 1994 he ended his parliamentary career first and was a board member of the state corporation alcohol. He was elected for a term in the European Parliament in 1999.
