Finspång Castle

Castle Finspång ( swedish Finspångs slott ) is a castle in the Swedish province of Östergötland County. It is located on an elongated peninsula in the river Finspångå in the homonymous municipality Finspång.

Location and History

The main building of the castle were built in the years 1685 to 1668 by the Dutchman Louis De Geer after plans of his compatriot Adriaan Dortsman. The stucco work were thereby designed predominantly by Carlo Carove. By the end of the 18th century, further expansion by wing extensions and other buildings was carried out by the descendants of De Geer, especially his grandson of the same name. Castle Finspång is now considered typical country castle from the Carolingian period.

The castle include the castle chapel in the northern part of the plant and the castle park. The latter was created in the years 1690 to 1820 in several stages and redesigned in 1790 to an English landscape garden. In the park are a Aurora temple dating back to 1791, a summer house built in 1821 and an orangery.

Today the castle is owned by the company Siemens. The buildings are not open to the public, the castle park, however, can be done freely.
