First Men in the Moon (1964 film)

The First Men in the Moon is a British H. G. Wells adaptation of Nathan Juran from the year 1964.

Action

Three astronauts - an American, a Russian and a Briton - to land the first men on the moon. But to their surprise, they discover a British flag and a document from the year 1899., The UN investigated to Arnold Bedford, whose name was on the document. Background

  • For the special effects Ray Harryhausen was responsible, which incorporated the stop-motion elements after the shooting in the movie. The special effects were advertised with Dynamation. It was his only film in Panavision widescreen and his second sci-fi film of Flying Saucers. Harryhausen wanted earlier film War of the Worlds by HG Wells, but found no backers.
