Firth of Thames

The Firth of Thames is a large bay in the north of the North Island of New Zealand. It is the promotion of the rivers Waihou River and Piako River. The former used to be called the Thames River. The town of Thames lies on the southeast coast of the bay.

The original name of the bay is Tikapa.

The bay is located at the southern end of the Hauraki Gulf southeast of the city of Auckland. It is located on the site of a grave break between the Coromandel Peninsula and the Hunua Ranges, the south continues in the Hauraki Plains.

The Firth of Thames is an important habitat for wading birds and shorebirds and is classified as a wetland of international importance under the Ramsar Convention. The Miranda Shorebird Centre, operated by the Miranda Naturalists ' Trust is located on the west coast of the bay in Miranda.
