Flag of Upper Volta

The flag of Upper Volta, today's West African country of Burkina Faso, a horizontal tricolor of black, white and red was it was approved on December 9, 1959, and maintained with independence from France on August 5, 1960.

With the renaming of the country to Burkina Faso on 4 August 1984, a new flag has been introduced.

The colors of the flag of Upper Volta are derived from the three main rivers of the state Black Volta, White Volta and Red Volta. The flag is similar to the black -white-red flag of the German Empire.
