Flag of Burkina Faso

The flag of Burkina Faso was officially introduced on August 4, 1984.

Description and significance

The national flag uses the pan-African traditional colors. The flag is divided horizontally in red and green, in the middle topped with a golden five-pointed star.

Red stands for the shed by the martyrs of the revolution and the blood sacrifice of the people of Burkina Faso. Green stands for the agricultural wealth of the country, which is to maintain the joy of the people. The yellow star performs symbolic democratic people's revolution in his brilliant progress.

History

Under the name of Upper Volta led the country from 9 December 1959, its own flag, which retained it after independence from France in 1960. The colors of the flag were derived from the names of the three main rivers of the country's Black Volta, White Volta and Red Volta. The resemblance to the black -white-red flag of the German Empire ( 3:5 ) is random. The presidential standard showed the same tricolor in an aspect ratio of 1:1.

In 1983 came the coup, the introduction of new state symbols and names followed.
