Flora Steiger-Crawford

Flora Steiger - Crawford ( born September 1, 1899 in Bombay, † July 30, 1991 in Zurich ) was a Swiss architect, furniture designer and sculptor.

Family

Flora Steiger - Crawford was the daughter of an electrical engineer Archibald Allan Crawford and Marie Elisabeth Veillon. She was married to the architect Rudolf Steiger and mother of architect Martin Steiger and Peter Steigerwald.

Occupations

The multi-talented Flora Steiger - Crawford was the first degree in architecture from Switzerland. She studied under Karl Moser at the ETH Zurich. Together with her husband Rudolf Steiger 1924, she opened an architectural office. The jointly executed house Sandy Reuter in Basel from 1924 is considered the first example of modern architecture in Switzerland.

She was involved in most community projects, but increasingly concentrated on designs of houses and interiors. They also developed furniture, such as the stacking chair for the Zett - house.
