Florian Hufsky

Florian Hufsky ( born November 13, 1986 in Villach, Carinthia, † December 16, 2009 in Vienna ) was an Austrian media artist and political activist.

Life

Florian Hufsky was born in Villach, presented in 2006 at the Higher Technical College Villach from the Matura and then studied graphic design at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. However, he died before he could finish his studies. Hufsky was a founder and board member of the Pirate Party of Austria and the Graffiti Research Lab Vienna (whose laser tag variant is used worldwide ) and the startups soup.io. In addition Hufsky created the popular Super Mario derivative Super Mario War and was a member of the programmers and designers group 72dpiarmy and Hackerspaces Metalab.

Media Art

Florian Hufsky and Michael Zeltner sat in Vienna for the dissemination of the laser tagging one. In this form of public art is an image on public land, usually walls projected. For this purpose, the two developed an artist from New York Graffiti Research Lab ( GRL ) further than open source software released. As a media artist Hufsky thus took on the Ars Electronica Festival in Linz part and the digital arts festival DigiTaika in Helsinki. The projects of the co-founders of CRL offshoot were shown regularly in the Museum Quarter.

That he helped develop open source game Super Mario War uses elements of classic Super Mario games, offers through the multiplayer aspect but a much broader game concept. The game delivered in version 1.7, more than 270 levels, 17 different game modes, and a level editor.

Political commitment

One of the concerns Florian Hufskys as representatives of the Austrian Pirate Party was to make a right of private copying in the digital age possible. But not only private copies, including privacy must be a central theme of the Pirate Parties, as the digitization runs the risk of a Big Brother society in itself. As part of its activity for the Pirate Party Hufsky organized in 2007 the first international conference of the Pirate Parties, which resulted in 2010 Pirate Parties International was founded.
