Footbridge

Pedestrian bridges, including pedestrian overpass, bridge or run as a closed construction Skyway, lead walkways over water, transportation facilities or valleys. They can be constructed from various materials. They are available as static bridges as well as a flexible constructions (for example, folding, hinged or lift bridges ). The dimensions range from a few meters to several hundred meters wingspan. Due to the low loads and the mostly low spans a high degree of design freedom in the design of pedestrian bridges is often given.

Transport Planning weighing

From the viewpoint of transport planning, the advantage of relatively cost-intensive construction is that crossing pedestrians do not impede the flow of traffic, if this precedence should be given ( through roads, freeways ). From the pedestrian perspective, over-or underpasses because of the greater walking distance and the height difference a detour compared to a flat sidewalk with traffic lights or crosswalks.

Examples

Architecturally outstanding

  • Millennium Bridge in London - extremely flat construction of a suspension bridge
  • The so-called Python bridge over the Spoorwegbassin in Amsterdam
  • Folding bridge in Kiel- horn
  • The Rolling Bridge in London

Extreme situation

  • A suspension bridge on the Dachstein in Austria ( near the Dachstein Skywalk ) lies at 2700 m above sea level and extends up to 400 m above ground. Opened in July 2013, it is thus the highest suspension bridge in Austria.

Extreme length

  • The Three Countries Bridge between the German town of Weil am Rhein and the French Huningue is with a span of 229.4 m in the category of arch construction, the longest pedestrian and bicycle bridge in the world.
  • Since 2011/2012, the 200.5 m long suspension bridge Holzgau 's longest bridge of its kind for pedestrians in Tyrol's Lech Valley in Austria.
  • Since July 2010, there are in a recreation area Sattel (SZ), Switzerland 's longest 374 m suspension bridge in Europe. The Skywalk is located at 1200 m above sea level and connects the Mostelberg with the Mäderenwald.
  • In Austria Reutte is with a planned length of 403 meters - somewhat obliquely across the valley - the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in the world arise. The bridge connects two locks and should be open around the clock. To prevent overload, the access on both sides beyond counting turnstiles on the sustainability of 500 people is limited.
  • Two Fußgägerhängebrücken in Japan are currently the length record holder. An approximately 375 and less than 403 m long.
