The donated by the City Dusseldorf Prize for Literature has been awarded since 1972 by the Council of the City of the basis of the decisions of the courts.

The prize is worth 4,000 Euros.
Award criteria
The Prize for Literature in the city of Dusseldorf is once granted to artists and groups, in particular the areas of poetry, writing, criticism, translation in the year. The awards are in recognition of a single artistic achievement as well as for the previous overall performance of a young artist who earned their or its further development funding.
Is a prerequisite for the award, that between the artist or group and the City of Dusseldorf a real relationship which can be detected by education, occupation, place of residence or other binding.
The winner is generally not older than 40 years, the winners not be older than 35 years.
A repeated awarding the prize to the same artist is allowed if there is a minimum period of five years between the ceremonies.
