Forráskút

Forráskút is a municipality in Csongrád, south-east Hungary. It is located 23.2 km north west of the county seat of Szeged in the small area Mórahalom and has 2350 inhabitants ( 2010). Forráskút means in Hungarian fountains and goes back to the past in the village fountain, fed by the leading past the church streams.

Geography

Lying in the Great Hungarian Plain the location is situated about 20 km west of the Tisza River, about 7 km west of the M5 motorway between Budapest and Szeged. His direct neighboring communities Zsombó, Bordány, Üllés and Balástya are currently on Csongrádi area, while the northerly Csólyospálos already belongs to the Bács -Kiskun. The soil is mainly composed as in much of the Puszta of fine brown sand and is used for the cultivation of cereals, maize, potatoes, wine and especially spice paprika. Nearby Forrátkúts are smaller forest areas and fishing lakes, in Szeged, two large lakes ( Fehér -tó and Sándorfalvi Halastó ) that serve the drinking water supply for the population.

Climate

It has a temperate continental climate with low rainfall, hot summers and cold winters. The coldest month is January with temperatures around the freezing point, the warmest is July ( 23.0 ° C ) where in the summer the daytime temperatures can exceed 40 ° C mark and the annual average temperature is 17 ° C. The relative humidity in summer is usually below 64 % and with over 2000 hours of sunshine a year, the region is the sunniest of Hungary.

History

Forráskút 1950 was an independent municipality, the settlement can be traced back to the 13th centuries. In the chronicles it is mentioned that at this point a stone-built church has been already used in 1478, which has been replaced by one built of 97,000 bricks new Roman Catholic Church in 1906. 1977 Forráskút was temporarily annexed the neighboring community Üllés. This state of affairs lasted until its final independence in early 1979.

Culture and sights

Every year on the third Saturday in August, the village festival ( falunap ) takes place, in which dressed in traditional costumes attract the residents with decorated horse-drawn carriage through the village. At the conclusion of the feast day there in the evening a large fireworks display. Other festivities include the annual Vintage Festival ( Szüret ), which takes place in late September and another festival that bears the beautiful name " stump pulling" ( tuskóhúzás ) and is celebrated on the seventh Sunday before Easter. In the central community park, a monument was erected to commemorate the dead of World War II, is currently the only monument in the community.

Economy

The economy Forráskúts is agricultural. In addition to coming from the socialist era agricultural producers cooperative " TÉSZ ", which operates large greenhouses in the south of the church, there is only one other national engineering company acting for agricultural machinery, FORRÁS gépek Kft.

Personalities

Among the most famous personalities heard the singer of the Hungarian band Nox ( band ) Szilvia Péter Szabó ( b. 1982 ), but which is indeed born in the neighboring Szeged grew up in Forráskút. The band represented Hungary at the Euro Vision Song Contest 2005 in Kiev.
