Forsvik

Forsvik is a place ( tätort ) in the Swedish province of Västra Götaland County and the historic province of Västergötland. It lies at the junction of Lake Viken in the Bottensjö about nine kilometers northwest of Karl Borg in the community Karl Borg.

History

Forsvik is a tourist. An industrial museum describes the 600-year history of the place. At the rapids between the two lakes developed during the early mills, sawmills and forges. In the second half of the 19th century Forsvik became one of the most important industrial towns in the region.

Around 1810 began in Forsvik with the work on the Göta Canal. The oldest and also the highest lock on the canal is located in Forsvik. An iron lift bridge for the same year led over the channel. The bridge that is no longer in operation since 1956, is the oldest iron bridge in Sweden and is lowered once a year.
