Francesco Carracci

Francesco Carracci (* 1595 in Bologna, † June 3, 1622 in Rome) was an Italian painter, draftsman and engraver.

Francesco Carracci was the son of Giovanni Antonio Carracci and nephew of Agostino and Annibale Carracci. He has already shown his early interest in art and have a certain talent possessed, because he was accepted into the studio of Ludovico Carracci soon. It was then that his talent not extend beyond some hopeful signs. However, the sources report that he was a good draftsman, and was it reasonably estimated. The extent to which this assessment is correct, today is difficult to assess, since it is only one drawing, a male nude in the British Museum in London, is ascribed without reservation.

Francesco seems to have been a hot-headed character. Occupies are numerous confrontations with the family. Due to disagreements with his teacher, he left his studio and moved to Rome. There he hoped to profit from the glory of his name. But there soon became apparent that his talent did not meet the requirements of the client. Nearly penniless, he died shortly afterwards.

Only few works are still considered hand. Most of them originated in Bologna.
