Francis Ambrière

Ambrière Francis ( born September 27, 1907 in Paris, † 1 July 1998) was a French writer and linguist.

Life and work

Ambrière went to school and studied at the University of Dijon. From 1935 to 1939 he was a staff member of the magazine Les Nouvelles littéraires. His experiences in German prisoner of war he worked on the novel Les Grandes Vacances 1939-1945, in 1946 the Prix Goncourt in 1940 received. From 1946 to 1972 he was the editor of the series Hachette Guide bleus ( The German Blue Guide ).

Ambrière was a connoisseur of French theater history. In 1989 he became a corresponding member of the Académie des sciences morales et politiques. He was an officer of the Legion of Honour.

Francis Ambrière was married to the Romanist literary scholar Madeleine Ambrière - Fargeaud.
