Francis Charmes

Francis Charmes, actually Marie -François charm, (* April 21, 1848 at Château de Baradel, Aurillac, † January 4, 1916 in Paris) was a French journalist, diplomat and politician.

Life

Charmes went to high school in Clermont- Ferrand and Poitiers, and was then an official of the state welfare office. Shortly after the Franco-German War began a career in journalism. Quickly, he was a talented writer and editor of the Journal of 1872 Débats. 1880 he was appointed by the French Government as Deputy Head of the Political Department of the Foreign Office. 1885 Charmes was head of department and remained until 1889. Subsequently, he returned to journalism and worked up again in 1907 for the Journal of Débats. He also wrote regularly for the Revue des Deux Mondes.

Back in the early 1880s was Charmes also politically active: From 1881 to 1885, from 1889 to 1898 he was a member of the department of Cantal in the French Chamber of Deputies. From 1900 to 1912, he was then a member of the Senate.

Francis Charmes 1908 was elected to the French Academy on the 40th armchair.
