Francis Gerard Brooks

Francis Gerard Brooks ( born January 14, 1924 in Rathfriland, County Down, Northern Ireland; † 4 September 2010 in Jerrettspass, Co. Down ) was an Irish clergyman and Bishop of Dromore in Northern Ireland.

Life

Francis Gerard Brooks received after his studies on 19 June 1949, the ordination. He taught at St. Coleman 's College, Newry, and was later its president.

Pope Paul VI. appointed him in 1975 to the bishop of Dromore. The Archbishop of Armagh, Cardinal William Conway, donated to him on January 25, 1976 in the Cathedral of Newry episcopal ordination; Archbishop Gaetano Alibrandi were co-consecrators, nuncio in Ireland, and his predecessor, Eugene O'Doherty.

Brooks was for many years Chairman of the Finance Committee of the Irish Episcopal Conference. In 1999, Pope John Paul II to his age-related withdrawal.
