Francisco Mora (painter)

Francisco Mora ( born May 7, 1922 in Uruapan, Michoacán, † 22 February 2002 in Cuernavaca ) was a Mexican artist.

Life

1938 Francisco Mora received a scholarship to study art at the Art Academy in Morelia and agriculture in La Huerta, Morelia. From 1941 to 1945 he studied at the Art Academy " La Esmeralda". From 1941 to 1965 belonged to the Taller de Grafica Mora at Popular ( Workshop of the People graphic artist, TGP ). From 1949 he was an art teacher in various night schools and worked as magazines - and textbook illustrator for the Mexican Ministry of Education. A central theme of his artistic work is the situation of the Mexican miners ( mineros ). With his wife, Elizabeth Catlett, he had three sons. In 1953, Mora's works were presented in a solo exhibition in Mexico City for the first time. 1957 Mora received the first prize in a competition organized by the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes, 1971 in Bratislava, the art medal. 1974 his works were exhibited in the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City.
