François Jullien

François Jullien ( born June 2, 1951 in Embrun, Hautes -Alpes ) is a French philosopher and sinologist.

Life

François Jullien studied as a graduate of the École Normale Supérieure de la rue d' Ulm 1972-1977 Chinese at universities in Beijing and Shanghai. From 1975 to 1977 he headed the antenna Française de Sinology in Hong Kong. From 1978 to 1981 Jullien was a fellow in the Japanese -German House in Tokyo. In 1978 he became in 1983 a doctorate in East Asian studies and specialist literature.

From 1988 to 1990, Jullien President of the Association Française des Études Chinois ( French Association for Chinese Studies ) and from 1995 to 1998 chairman of the Collège international de philosophie. Since 2004 he has been a professor at the University of Paris VII classical Chinese philosophy and aesthetics.

In other functions is François Jullien Director of the Centre Marcel Granet and the Institute of la Pensee Contemporaine ( center for contemporary thinking), editor of the collections " Orientales " and " Libelles " ( " libels " ) from the publisher Presses Universitaires de France ( PUF) in Paris.

Position
