François-Léon Benouville

Léon Benouville also François -Léon Benouville ( born March 30, 1821 in Paris, † February 16, 1859 ) was a French painter.

Léon Benouville first studied with his brother Jean- Achille Benouville (1815-1891) by François - Édouard Picot, before he joined the École des Beaux -Arts in 1837. A year later he made his debut at the Paris Salon. Like his brother, he received the Prix de Rome in 1845. He produced in Rome works are influenced by early Christianity and often show depictions of antiquity.

Many of his paintings and drawings are owned by the Louvre, the Musée d' Orsay other, the Musée des beaux -arts in Pau, in the Musée de Brou in Bourg -en- Bresse and the Musée Fabre, Montpellier.

Up to 38,000 U.S. dollars today for his oil paintings at the art market paid.
