François Morellet

François Morellet ( born April 30, 1926 in Cholet, France) is a contemporary French artist who has worked primarily with painting, light art, kinetic art, sculpture and engraving. His art is commonly of geometric abstraction and minimalism attributed, although a certain proximity is postulated to Dadaism. Morellet is one of the most brilliant French representatives of Concrete Art. It belongs next to Julio Le Parc, Horacio Garcia Rossi, Francisco Sobrino, Joël Stein and Yvaral in 1960, the founders of the artists group Groupe de Recherche d'Art Visuel ( GRAV ).

Life and work

Morellet first works from 1948 to 1975 in his parents'. During this time he deals only with the self-taught painting before he can teach also a painter. As early as 1950, Morellet himself as " abstract painter" and had his first exhibition at the gallery Creuze in Paris. In the 60s, he turns more and more experimental art and is a member of GRAV, a group of artists who wanted to explore the possibilities of visual art scientific experiment. From 1963 he is a neon. From the late 60s to Morellet begins to be interested in architecture and works in public space and is among other things the " Centre Culturel " in Compiegne, involved in the Parisian district of La Défense or the sculpture park at the Kröller- Müller Museum in Otterlo.
