Frank Griswold

Frank Tracy Griswold III ( born September 18, 1937 in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania) was from 1997 to 2006 Presiding Bishop and head of the Episcopal Church in the United States.

After graduating from the General Theological Seminary in New York City, he was ordained a priest in 1963 and served in three different municipalities of the Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania. In 1985, he was ordained in the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago by John Maury Allin bishop, and served there from 1985 to 1987 as Bischofkoadjutor and then from 1987 to 1997 as a bishop.

In the national church synod in 1997 he was elected to the office of Presiding Bishops. His term expired on 1 November 2006. His successor is Katharine Jefferts Schori.

Griswold wrote substantial parts of the Eucharistic Prayer "B " in the Book of Common Prayer (1979).
