Frank Lee Morris ( September 1, 1926 *, † unknown, disappeared on June 11, 1962 death uncertain, is suspected June 12, 1962 ) was an American criminal who escaped from the notorious Alcatraz prison and was never seen again.

Life and work

Morris said to have had an IQ of 133. He was sentenced in the course of his life, among others for drug trafficking and armed robberies in 1960 and brought to the prison island of Alcatraz off San Francisco, from which he undertook in 1962 an escape attempt. Together with the two brothers John and Clarence Anglin, he dug his way freely through the old walls of a ventilation shaft. Together, they came over the cell block finally outward and then disappeared with a boat, which they had made ​​of raincoats. Their disappearance was not noticed until the next morning, as the fugitives already had a lead of more than nine hours.

It is believed that Morris and the Anglin brothers were drowned in the attempt to escape; However, the bodies were never found. Some recent evidence, however, indicate that Morris and the Anglin brothers managed to flee. The three are said to have fled to South America and stay in Honduras. Subsequent flight tests have shown that you can swim from Alcatraz from ashore.
