Frank Vignola

Frank Vignola ( born December 30, 1965 in Long Iceland ) is an American jazz guitarist and banjo player of the jazz mainstream.

Life and work

Frank Vignola started playing the guitar at age five and later studied at the Cultural Arts Center of Long Iceland. Since the 1980s, he was involved as a sideman on numerous record productions, mainly on the Concord label; together with Charlie Byrd, Joey DeFrancesco, Peter Ecklund, Lars Erstrand, the Gully Low Jazz Band, Susannah McCorkle, Ken Peplowski, Dick Sudhalter. Since 1993, he recorded a number of albums under his own name for Concord Records. Among his solo releases is particularly outstanding album Off Broadway, which he recorded for the Nagel Heyer label in 1999 with Roland Hanna, Frank Wess and Randy Sandke. The tuba player Sam Pilafian he also plays in a duo since 1991 Travellin 'Light. According to Richard Cook and Brian Morton his guitar style is reminiscent with a slight rock influence to the fusion musicians such as Al Di Meola.
