Franke-Schenk

Franke -Schenk is an art dealer and gallery, the artworks presented from the 16th century to the 20th century. The Art Salon emerged in 2009 from the merger of two companies.

History

Art Salon Franke

The Art Salon Franke -Schenk in 1913 as an art salon Franke through the metal goods factory Willy Franke (1875 Altenburg - 1957 Leipzig ) was founded. The Art and antique shop art salon Franke was until 1961 in Leipzig. The family was mainly specialized in the painting trade in old masters. From 1927, son of Walter Franke (1901 Dresden - 1968 Baden- Baden), an art historian, of the management. Due to the repression of the GDR and the expropriation of the art dealer forced to flee in 1961, the Art Salon Franke in Baden -Baden settled.

From 1967, where he became the third generation Michael Franke (1939 Leipzig - 1985 Baden -Baden ) as head of the Art Salon Franke. Michael Franke enlarged the business further in the 1970s and intensified with his wife Catherine Franke the antiques trade in silver and furniture in other branches. 1971 took over the chairmanship of Michael Franke Association of Art Dealers Baden -Württemberg.

After his early death in 1985 Catherine Franke concentrated the art trade on the painting of classical modernism. Among the artists of the gallery included, in addition to Marc Chagall, Karl Hofer, Max Pechstein, Karl Schmidt- Rottluff and Alexej von Jawlensky, especially Lovis Corinth and Max Liebermann. 1992 Catherine Franke organized a Max Liebermann exhibition, which they in Cologne, Zurich and Berlin, in Liebermann's Wannsee Villa, presented. At her instigation, the villa was declared a National Monument and founded the Society of Liebermann Liebermann Villa. Starting this year, the Zurich gallery Dr. Schenk and the Munich Art Salon Franke worked together in joint ventures.

Gallery Dr. Schenk

The Gallery Dr. Schenk was founded in Zurich in 1984. The art historian Rolf Schenk began his art dealer activity 1979 in Carroll Gallery in Munich. After receiving his doctorate in art history in 1981, he shifted his field of work to Zurich, where he worked for the auction house Koller and the Galerie Jörg Stuker in Bern. From 1984 to 1993, Dr. Schenk Gallery concerned mainly with paintings from the 18th to the 20th century and led Swiss artist of international standing, as Cuno Amiet, Albert Anker, Francois Diday, Giovanni Giacometti and Augusto Giacometti, Ferdinand Hodler and Giovanni Segantini and Gottardo Segantini.

Art Salon Franke -Schenk

Following a joint art exhibition and exhibition activities, the two Art Shops merged in Munich for the Arts Salon Franke -Schenk. After several relocations in the city center of Munich, the Art Salon has been based since 2010 in the residence street 23. The Art Salon Franke -Schenk is a gallery that specializes in Old Masters and classical modernism. Dr. Rolf Schenk is on the board of the DK ( German Art Trade Association eV ) operates.
