Frankie Knuckles

Frank Warren " Frankie" Knuckles Jr. ( born January 18, 1955 in the Bronx, New York City; † March 31, 2014 in Chicago) was an American DJ and musician, known as the " Godfather of House" ( " Godfather of House " ) was considered.

Life

About his friend Larry Levan Knuckles was already in teenage years in contact with the burgeoning disco and dance scene. They were interested mainly for disc jockeys, and Knuckles was in 1972 for the first time the opportunity to stand on the turntables: He was hired by Scott tea for six months for the club Better Days. Levan and Knuckles could also help in preparing the parties Nick Siano (DJ in The Gallery ). From 1972 to 1976, she also helped in the Continental Baths, where Knuckles was able to expand his skills as a DJ.

Mid-seventies drew the New York Robert Williams to Chicago, to open up a new club. Through a mutual friend he came to Knuckles and instructed ( after canceled Levan had ) him as a DJ. There he became a resident DJ at the legendary Warehouse, where by Knuckles ' revolutionary mix techniques from the Disco and RnB music finally emerged House.

As the Warehouse 1982 his admission prices doubled, Knuckles was outraged and left the club. He opened the Power Plant. In the mid- 1980s displaced hip hop the house scene and the Power Plant closed in 1986. 1987 Knuckles tried again and opened the club powerhouse, but was quickly closed again by the authorities.

End of the 80s he had to leave Chicago after he had recorded several tracks with Jamie Principle and these had sold behind his back at the same two labels; Principle then took to the track Knucklehead. Although the early house music scene had often mafia-like business practices, Knuckles was after this action in the Chicago scene initially an undesirable person and moved to New York City.

In the 1990s, Knuckles was for six years a resident DJ at New York's Sound Factory. He was also booked worldwide and toured around the globe.

As a remixer Knuckles was responsible for Michael Jackson, Pet Shop Boys and Diana Ross worked and won the 1998 Grammy Award for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical.

A great honor was bestowed Knuckles, as the Chicago street where was the warehouse, renamed Honorary Frankie Knuckles Way on August 25, 2004. 2005 saw its inclusion in the Dance Music Hall of Fame.

On March 31, 2014 he died of a diabetes disease.
