Franko Luin

Franko Luin (also: Franco Luin, born April 6, 1941 in Trieste, † 15 September 2005 Tyresö ) was a Slovenian -born media designer and type designer in Sweden. Many of his writings have become modern classics.

Biography

Luin was born as the son of Slovenian parents in Italy. 1961, at the age of 20 years, he settled in Sweden. He began to develop an interest in design, printing, typography and graphics. In 1967, he completed a study on grafiska Institutet in Stockholm. In the next twenty years he worked as a media designer at Ericsson in Tyresö, 1989, he started his own business and began designing fonts besides the graphic work in his newly founded company "Omnibus Typografi ". For a time he taught web typography at the " Berghs School of Communication " in Stockholm. In Slovenia, he is known as the publisher of hundreds of Slovene literary classic in freely accessible digital form.

Since he was 15, he was interested in Esperanto, and was for many years active in the Swedish Esperanto Association, including as Chairman and as editor of the members' magazine La Espero. He also called a font according to the plan language.

He was a member of the Slovenian minority in Italy and always felt as Slovene, although he was never Slovenian nationals.
