Frans Francken the Younger
Frans Francken the Younger ( * 1581 in Antwerp, † May 6, 1642 ibid ) was a Flemish painter and draftsman of the Baroque. He was the most famous and artistically gifted member of the family of painters Francken. He was a pupil of his father Frans Francken I, a student of Frans Floris. 1605 was the acquittal to the Master. 1614/15 he became dean of the Guild of St. Luke. His son Frans Francken III. (1607-1667) was also a painter.
His oeuvre includes allegories, cabinet paintings, history paintings, genre scenes, still lifes, Kunstkammer images ( Cabinet d' amateur ), altarpieces and picture galleries. Francken II is attributed to both the establishment of the art chamber images genre and the genre scenes with monkeys; both were henceforth popular in Flemish painting. Characteristic are the accentuated eyes star of his characters. He often repeats specific characteristics of its type.
