Frans Hedberg

Frans Hedberg Teodor ( born March 2, 1828 in Stockholm, † June 8, 1908 in Vaxholm ) was a Swedish poet, playwright and librettist.

Life

Frans Hedberg came only to a merchant, and later to a hairdresser in the teaching, where he stayed for five years and worked as an actor since 1849, until he turned exclusively of dramatic poetry. 1852 was his first comedy En herre, som går vilse ( A gentleman who goes astray ) listed in Stockholm.

His plays, which lack the great sweep of the imagination, all have a strictly moral character, reveal detailed knowledge of the stage and evidence of a keen eye for dramatic composition. 1870 Hedberg was appointed a member of the Academy (the " Eighteen " ), in 1871 was appointed director of the Royal Theatre; 1881-83 he led the Directorate of the Gothenburg scene.

His opera librettos were usually set to music by Jacob Niclas Ahlström and Ivar Hallström.
