Franz Hillenkamp

Franz Hillenkamp ( born March 18, 1936 in Essen) is a German scientist in the field of physical chemistry and professor, known for his research on matrix -assisted Laser-Desorption/Ionisierung.

Franz Hillenkamp studied at the Technical University of Munich, where he earned his doctorate in 1966. Until 1976 he was a member of the GSF - National Society for Radiation and Environmental Research, Munich. From 1976 on, he worked as a professor at the University of Frankfurt. In 1985, he coined the term and his colleagues for a MALDI matrix-assisted Laser-Desorption/Ionisierung in mass spectrometry. In 1986 a professor at the Medical Faculty of the University of Münster, where he retired in 2001. Since 2001, Hillenkamp is a full member of the North Rhine- Westphalian Academy of Sciences.

Franz Hillenkamp is married and has 3 children.
