Michael Karas

Michael Karas ( born 1952 ) is a German scientist in the field of physical chemistry and professor, who supported his research on matrix Laser-Desorption/Ionisierung was known.

Michael Karas studied chemistry at the University of Bonn, where he earned his doctorate in 1982 in the field of physical chemistry. From 1983 to 1986 he was in the group of Prof. Franz Hillenkamp at the Institute of Biophysics at the University of Frankfurt. 1987, he was Hillenkamp to Münster and the two took positions at the Medical Faculty of the University of Münster.

In 1984 in Frankfurt Karas had begun with the development of the MALDI technique. In 1992 he completed his habilitation in physical chemistry. In 1995 he followed a call to Frankfurt and returned to the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University. Here he received an appointment as Professor of Instrumental Analytical Chemistry. In 2001 he moved to the Institute of Pharmaceutical Chemistry. Even today, he is busy with the advancement of technology which he founded.
