Franz Niklaus König

Franz Niklaus König ( born April 6, 1765 in Bern, † March 27, 1832 ) was a Swiss genre and portrait painter.

After training at Tiberius and Marquard Wocher, Sigmund Freudenberger and Balthasar Anton Dunker, he made a name for himself through dress photos, rural genre scenes and landscapes. In 1797 he moved with his family to the Bernese Oberland and 1798 he took over as captain of artillery in the fight against the French part. He was among the founders of the first Unspunnenfeste of 1805 and 1808.
