Fred B. Rooney

Bernard Frederick "Fred" Rooney ( born November 6, 1925 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania ) is a former American politician. Between 1963 and 1979 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Fred Rooney attended the common schools and graduated in 1944, the Bethlehem High School. During the final phase of the Second World War, he served 1944-1946 in the U.S. Army. He was used in Europe. Then he studied until 1950 at the University of Georgia in Athens. In the following years he worked in the real estate market as well as in the insurance industry. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Democratic Party launched a political career. Between 1958 and 1963 he was a member of the Senate of Pennsylvania.

After the death of Representatives Francis E. Walter Rooney was in the overdue election for the 15 seats of Pennsylvania as his successor in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he took up his new mandate on 30 July 1963. After seven elections he was able to complete until January 3, 1979 at the Congress. In this time were, among others, the Vietnam War, the Watergate scandal and the end of the civil rights movement. In 1978 he was not re-elected.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Fred Rooney worked as a business consultant.
