Fred Jones (basketball)

Frederick "Fred" Terrell Jones ( born March 11, 1979 in Malvern, Arkansas ) is an American professional basketball player who played most recently in 2011 for the Guangdong Southern Tigers in China.

In 2004 he won the slam dunk contest at the Allstar Weekend. At that time he was still for the Indiana Pacers in use.

He had little chance to properly enforce to be set up as starting five at the Indiana Pacers. The other guards, as Jamaal Tinsley or Stephon Jackson were too popular. That's why he wanted to leave the team and will not extend the contract further.

Lacking the Toronto Raptors at Guards, the management of the team had to act. So they came to Fred Jones, who saw this as an opportunity to make it big out in the NBA. Therefore, Jones agreed in contract negotiations and at the same. In the offseason 2006, he already showed his skills then. He scored more often than 20 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists.

From January 2007, Jones was hardly or not at all used. On 21 February 2007, the day of the trade deadline, he was finally discharged from the Raptors in exchange for guard Juan Dixon to the Portland Trail Blazers. But after the 2006/07 season he was passed by the Blazers. He was sold on 28 June 2007 along with Zach Randolph, Dan Dickau and the draft rights to Demetris Nichols in exchange for Steve Francis, Channing Frye and a second-round draft pick in the 2008 NBA Draft to the New York Knicks.
