Fred Kelemen

Fred Kelemen (* 1964 in Berlin ) is a German and Swedish director, writer and cinematographer.

Life

Fred Kelemen was born in West Berlin. He studied painting, music, philosophy, religious studies and theater studies. He then worked as an assistant director. From 1989 he studied camera and directing at the German Film and Television Academy in Berlin.

He turned as a director, among other films Kalyi (1993 ), doom (English title Fate, 1994), Frost ( 1997/98), the West (English title Nightfall, 1999), Ember ( original title Krisana, English title Fallen, 2005).

He held master classes and has been a guest lecturer at various national and international film schools and universities ( German Film and Television Academy in Berlin, School of Visual Arts, University of Tel Aviv, Latvian Academy of Culture Riga, Universidad de Chile, Kidderminster College, Center for Cinematographic Studies of Catalonia, Thammasat University, Harvard University, Ecole des Beaux Arts, Lyon, France), Academy of Fine Arts Saar in Saarbrücken / Germany.

As a cameraman he shot among other films Journey to the Plain (1995), The Man from London (2005 - 2007), A torinói ló ( The Turin Horse) (2008 - 2011) by Hungarian director Béla Tarr, The Visible and the Invisible (2006) by German director Rudolf Thome and Stone Time touch ( 2005) of the Canadian- Armenian director Gariné Torossian. The Argentine director Héctor Faver he worked on the film Invocación ( 2000).

Retrospectives of his films are, for example, in the Tate Modern in London, Anthology Film Archives in New York, the National Film Theatre in Budapest, in the Cinematheque Mexico City and many other places presented.

As a theater director, he worked at the Volksbühne Berlin ( Prater ) ( Desire, 2001) ( rehearsing Stammheim, 2002) Sophiensaele in Berlin and at the Schauspielhaus Hannover (Fahrenheit 451, 2002).

Fred Kelemen is a member of the German Film Academy, European Film Academy, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences / USA and the European Cultural Parliament.
