Fred Lasswell

Fred Lasswell ( born July 25, 1916 in Kennett, Missouri, † March 3, 2001 in Tampa, Florida) was an American comic book artist.

Life and work

Lasswell started at the newspaper Tampa Daily Times as a sports cartoonist. Barney Google artist Billy DeBeck discovered the then 17 - year-old man and hired him as an assistant. For the next few years she worked closely together. Around 1934 there was a new figure in the Barney Google Universe: Snuffy Smith. After DeBecks death in 1942, Lasswell took over the work on the comic Barney Google and Snuffy Smith. Lasswell brought new characters in the series and put the focus more and more towards the Hintlerwäldlers Snuffy Smith.

Lasswell, the father of three sons and a daughter, lived for many years in Tampa. In 1963 he received the Reuben Award for Barney Google.
