Fred Thelonious Baker

Fred Thelonious Baker ( born June 4, 1960 in Tibshelf, England ) is a British fusion bassist and guitarist.

Baker first learned classical and jazz guitar, but moved as a teenager to the bass guitar. During his time at the Birmingham School of Music in 1980, he met the ex- Soft Machine - musician Ric Sanders, with which he then played in the quartet of John Etheridge. On the side of Harry Beckett he toured Central Europe and played three albums ( with Chris McGregor ) a. He also played with Maggie Nicols and with Elton Dean and Etheridge, and then from 1988 to 1991, to appear in Phil Miller's In Cahoots (several albums). He then went on playing in a duo with Miller, since 2002 also in the band of Pip Pyle and Alex Maguire. 1993 he was with Horace Parlan in Germany, where "A Man of Roses " was born. He took a drummer Brian Abrahams and saxophonist Shell Baker in his own band, in which he worked as a guitarist. He also played with Ric Sanders and Vicky Clayton in folk jazz area, where he was involved among other things, the Sandy Denny Tribute "It Suits Me Well". Together with guitarist Simon Dinnigan he played also the "Concerto for Two Guitars " by Andrew Downes.

Baker teaches at the Birmingham Conservatoire Jazz and Progressive Music.
