Pip Pyle

Phillip " Pip " Pyle ( born April 4, 1950 in Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire, † August 28, 2006 in Paris ) was an English drummer who started playing in bands in the Canterbury sounds blues-rock and progressive rock, and later (especially in France) fusion music. He was also a member of Hatfield and the North and National Health.

Life and work

Pyle, who already knew Phil Miller from kindergarten, founded with this and his brother Steve in 1966 Bruno's Blues Band, from the blues rock band delivery developed, played in the Pyle until 1970. He was the drummer of Chicken Shack and Khan for a short time. 1971 Robert Wyatt colleague asked him to participate in his place on Daevid Allen's solo album, Banana Moon. Then Pyle played for eight months in Allen's group Gong and was also on their albums Camembert ƒlectrique and Continental Circus involved ( in the 1990s he played again in the band ). In 1972 he accompanied singer Paul Jones.

Then Pyle, Steve and Phil Miller got back together and formed - extended by Richard Sinclair and Dave Stewart - Delivery again, they umnannten shortly afterwards (after a Autobahnschild ) in Hatfield and the North. For the band, the 1974 and 1975 each released an album, Pyle wrote many texts.

He then played with some of the band at National Health, but was also with Hugh Hopper and Elton Dean in the project Soft Heap active, where he grappled for the first time with the jazz idiom. He also played with Phil Miller's In Cahoot since 1982. In 1984 he met the pianist Sophia Domancich, with whom he entered into a committed relationship for several years. She was also a member of his band Equip'Out, with whom he toured and recorded several albums grossed. In 1998 he published his Exposed by critics solo album " Seven Year Itch " where musicians such as Miller, Sinclair, Stewart, Dean, Hopper, Jakko Jakszyk, Barbara Gaskin, John Greaves, François Ovide, Lydia Domancich, Fred T. Baker, Paul Rogers, Michel Godard and Didier Malherbe participated.

In his group Bash! played at the beginning of the 21st century, the French guitarist Patrice Meyer, keyboardist Alex Maguire and Fred T. Baker. 2005 and 2006 there were a few shows to a revival of Hatfield and the North. The last concert the group played on August 26 in Groningen, two days before Pyle's death in a Paris hotel.
