John Etheridge

John Michael Glyn Etheridge ( born January 12, 1948 in Lambeth, London ) is a British jazz guitarist who is counted in the Canterbury Scene.

Life and work

Etheridge learned with 13 years as a self-taught guitar. After studying Art History at Essex University, where he played from 1971 in various jazz rock bands. Between 1975 and 1978 he was a member of Soft Machine. He was also with Diz Disley to 1981 and Stéphane Grappelli on tour. At the same time he founded his Second Vision ( with Ric Sanders and Fred T. Baker). After appearances in Australia and the United States (also in duo with bassist Brian Torff ) he worked in John Etheridge Trio, but also with Gary Boyle. Between 1989 and 1993 he was with Danny Thompson's Whatever.

Furthermore, he was with Dick Heckstall -Smith, Bireli Lagrene, Nigel Kennedy and Andy Summers on tour. He also played in Elton Dean / John Etheridge Quartet and in WEB ( John Williams, Etheridge, Bebey ). In 1999, Etheridge Frank Zappa tribute band tied Zappatistas who released a live CD and in 2006 appeared on the German Zappanale Festival ..

2005 Etheridge toured together with three other ex-members of Soft Machine - Hugh Hopper, Elton Dean and John Marshall as Soft Machine Legacy and also produced three albums. In addition, informed Etheridge.
