Frederic Hauge

Frederic Hauge ( born August 15, 1965 in Sandefjord, Norway) is an activist of the environmental movement in Norway.

Initially he worked actively " Natur og Ungdom " in the association he founded in 1986 together with Rune Haaland, the Norwegian environmental organization Bellona, whose leader he is.

In October 2007, the American news magazine " TIME Magazine " has named him one of the " Environmental Hero of the Earth ," among other things together with Al Gore and Robert Redford. The list of " Heroes of the Environment" contains 45 names. The TIME Magazine brings every year a list of the Chosen of them "Heroes of the Earth" and in 2007 the theme was to just focus on people who are very active are committed to the environment.

Life

Hauge was organizing secretary of the Association of Natur og Ungdom (Norwegian Nature Conservation youth) since 1985 and was first portrayed in the context in NRK television. His first spectacular action began in the same year against Hydro Polymers (then a subsidiary of Norsk Hydro) in Rafsnes. Three activists, including Frederic Hauge, climbed to the distillation tower Hydro Rafsnes and fastened there, a big banner with the inscription " Fem år med EDC - Hva gjør SFT ".

1986 saw the establishment of the Environmental Foundation Bellona. Since the mid- 80s is Hauge participant and co-organizer of numerous demonstrations and violent actions against various industrial plants, toxic dumps and the like in Norway and abroad.

Since 1996, Hauge and the entire Bellonastiftung were particularly heavily involved in and around the legal process of the former Russian submarine captain and environmentalist Alexander Nikitin, who was charged and imprisoned because of his collaboration with Bellona in Russia on charges of treason and espionage. Nikitin were sentenced to death and his methods got international attention. 1999 Nikitin was acquitted and released from custody. Bellona had in connection with the process costs in the millions.
